Creation Stories

Picture
Creation Stories, Date
In English class we read and discussed several Native American creation stories. These stories fit within the pillar of Investigate the World because the stories gave a deeper insight into Native culture. Furthermore, the Creation Stories supported the concept of this pillar by showing me the differences between what Creation Stories are familiar to me and what stories would be familiar to Native Americans, especially how Native cultures were greatly in tune with nature. This source addresses my overarching question in that it helps me to understand Native culture, to give greater comparison to how things have changed. After reading these Creation Stories, it showed me that these were the beliefs that colonizers fought to override. They gave me a basis for what were valued traits for Native Americans before colonizers came. This source connects to history because these stories are a documentation of ancient Native traditions that are uncommon today.
